Dave Adhicary, a native of Calcutta / Kolkata, India - now a U.S. citizen - grew up without television at home, no journalist in the entire family and no family outside India.
He was close to completing 2-year BA in English at the University of Calcutta when he became the first ever in his entire family - full of engineers - to get a rare opportunity to come and study in the United States. He graduated with liberal arts 4-year bachelor's degree in Communication & Media Arts from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
Now even so many years later, he's still the only one in the family with an American degree.
He has reported across 3 out of 5 U.S. television networks, MSNBC / MS Now, NBC News and CBS News, 1 of top 2 worldwide TV news channels, CNN, as well as 2 of the 3 largest global news agencies, Reuters and Associated Press on some of the most consequential stories from both coasts on the front lines.
Dave's reporting directly or indirectly has appeared on most of the U.S. and global news and media brands, including The New York Times. He grew up reading Reuters stories from around the globe in English newspapers and dreamed about doing such work. Fast forward, from Reuters' West Coast bureau in Los Angeles, he spearheaded groundbreaking investigations of major national and international stories, some of which ended up being reused by digital aggregators as well as media outlets back in India.
He was first to report and break news on national security and climate change off the LA coast and in DC days after 9/11.
A former newspaper reporter and magazine editor, he produced an Emmy-nominated PBS documentary. From 5 states, he has reported on city, county, state, federal governments, courts, Congress, Pentagon and 2 Presidents.
He has interviewed Irish Prime Minister, British Member of Parliament, elite athletes Kobe Bryant (twice), Michael Jordan (covered), Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, race horse trainer Bob Baffert, Hollywood actors Megan Fox, Josh Brolin, Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson.
After learning to drive in Ohio, Dave became a road-trip enthusiast. He has driven coast to coast twice: from DC to LA and Seattle to DC, on California Highway 1 from LA up to Oregon border, down on the Baja California Highway 1 to Ensenada, Mexico, to Vancouver, Canada and U.S. Route 1 in Maine.
He has crisscrossed nearly 20 states, lived and or worked in 10 as well as major East and West coast cities, including New York, Washington, Boston, Seattle, San Francisco... and now Los Angeles.
